CLIFFORD MAE ROSS HADDOCK SOCIAL ADVOCATE, RELIGIOUS ADVOCATE AND EDUCATOR Mrs. Clifford Mae Ross Haddock was born on November 3, 1918 to the parentage of Clifford and Bertha Davis Ross. She was the oldest of three children. Dorothy Lee and Bertha (Honey) both preceded her in death. She departed this life on Friday, October 22, 2004 at the Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Her life spanned decades of diligent service for her church, for education and for many other community causes. At an early age Clifford M. Haddock joined St. Paul A.M.E. Church where she became a devoted lifetime missionary and a chairperson for the State Methodist Conference. She was a proud stewardess at the church and chaired many committees and organizations. She devoted her time, finances, and faithfulness in many capacities until her illness prevented her from participating. Clifford received her early education from M.M. Burdell and Hudson High School. She received her BA degree from Ft. Valley State College in Elementary Education and her Master's degree from Tuskegee " University. Many students in Bibb and surrounding counties for over thirty-five years felt Clifford's teaching experience. As an educator, Clifford became the FIRST KINDERGARTEN TEACHER IN BIBB COUNTY. Her firmness and commitment to shaping the minds of boys and girls brought her great joy. Clifford met and married her life soulmate, John Wesley Haddock, on September 20, 1935. To this union a son was bom, John Wesley, Jr., who passed away at a very early age. Clifford was a very active community supporter. In 1940 she organized the prestigious social club, THE SKY LARK CLUB, that still remains very active. She was a charter member (founder) of Mary L. Walker Assembly #14 Order of the Golden Circle Prince Hall Affiliate and a member of Square Chapter #61 Order of the Eastem Stars. Persistence, passion and competition seemed to be traits of Clifford as seen in her needlepoint, knitting and crocheting. Her tender love of handcraft will long be with those she leaves behind. She leaves to cherish her memory; a daughter, Mrs. Mildred (Robert) Sims; grandchildren, Mr. Robert (Elizabeth) Sims, Jr.; great grandson, Roberto D. Sims, all of Atlanta, Georgia; one brother-in-law, Mr. Booker T. (Merle) Haddock of Springfield Gardens, New York; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Louise Rowe of Mt. Vemon, New York and Mrs. Gladys Robinson of Winston Salem, North Carolina; cousin, Mrs. Bettye Davis Rivers of Macon, Georgia; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, several god children and friends.
