Leonard was born May 24, I 934 in Danville, Virginia, to the late John and Fannie Gwynn. He was born the eighth of ten children and received Christ at the Trinity Baptist Church, Danville, Virginia. - Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, John and Fannie, Gwynn and five of his sibling, Victoria H. Jackson, WilliamS. Gwynn, John L Gwynn, Jr., Alice). Gwynn and Bristor D. Gwynn. Leonard was a graduate of John M. Langston High School, Danville, Virginia, received his B.S. in Business Administration from Morehouse College, Atlanta, Georgia and his Jurist Doctorate from John Marshall Law School, Atlanta, Georgia. Leonard and Poetry Covington Gwynn entered into wedlock on November 17, 1956, celebrating nearly 57 years of marriage. From that union was born a greatly loved child, Leonard J. Gwynn Jr., affectionately known as Leo. Leonard was a 40+ year employee of the U.S. Postal Service. Leonard received his greatest enjoyment in life when with his beloved wife Poetry, son Leo and working among the flowers and grass in his yard. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Poetry Covington, Gwynn, son, Leonard J. Gwynn, Jr., sisters, Edna G .Bazemore, Mary Frances Waller and Juliette Gwynn, all of Philadelphia and Barbara Jeffries, of Danville, Virginia, Sisters-in-Law, Oatry Covington Lewis, Myrtice McCoy Covington, brother-in-law, Augustus Jordan, Sr, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
