He was the first of three sons born to Mr. and Mrs. Willis Fitzhugh, Sr. During his early childhood he moved to Macon, Georgia with his parents, where he received his education. Realizing that he had to work out his own soul salvation, he joined St. Paul A. M. E. Church, where he served on the Usher Board. Following his father 1 s occupation, he joined the Brick Masons Local No. 4 to receive his apprenticeship and followed this trade until he reached a master craftsman. In 1951 he was called to serve his country, where he was later Honorably Discharged. Fitzhugh was a friend and lover of people, especially children, and to make them happy was his greatest pleasure. In March 1962 he was united in Holy Wedlock to Miss Irene Coleman. Having been stricken with illness several years ago, he bore it patiently and uncomplainingly. Surviving relatives are his devoted wife, Mrs. Irene C. Fitzhugh; a daughter, Miss Jerita Fitzhugh; two sons, Donald and Gregory Fitzhugh; two stepsons, Lorenzo and Earnest Scott; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Fitzhugh, Sr.; two brothers, Anderson Fitzhugh of Glendale, Ariz. and Alphonzo Fitzhugh of San Francisco, Cal if.; a devoted aunt, Mrs. Verdell Allen; grandchild, Pamela White; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
