 Mrs . Essie Lee Gotell Cosby, age 100, passed away on September 1, 2014 in her home in Decatur, Georgia of natura1 causes. Mrs. E ss1.e, "Mommoa," and "B.1g Momma," as she was known, was born in Monticello, Georgia on March 1, 1914, to Martin and Mary Williams Gotell of Jasper County, Georgia. She married Mr. Doile Cosby of Greensboro, Georgia in 1944, with the marriage lasting until his death in 1999. 
Mrs. Cosby was a faithful wife, loving mother and a devoted Christian. For over half a century, she has been serving God at Saint Philip A.M.E. Church. Her interests included home improvement, traveling to flea markets, and spending time with her family at annual family reunions. 
She leaves to cherish her memory eight of ten sons and daughters, Mrs. Catherine Heath, Mr. and Mrs. Bennie (Shirley) Fleetwood, Jr., Mr. Gene Cosby, Ms. Barbara Cosby, Mrs. Sarah Burden, Mr. Paul Cosby, Ms. Elsie Cosby, and Mr. Billy Cosby all of Decatur, Georgia; nineteen of twenty-four grandchildren, fifty greatgrandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, friends and loved ones. 
She will be greatly missed and will live on in the memories of her children and all those who loved her. 
 
No more griefand sorrow, no more stdfering orpain. Now there is everfastingpeace Because the Angels came. 
On!J God knows what is best and He gent!J holds my hand Guiding me to a betterplace Because the Angels came. 
When the sun rises tomorrow and I answer not my name, Please don't cry... R~join with me Because the Angels came. 
I now can rest in peace as I never could before. 
I answered the gentle knock ofthe angels at my door. 
So please don't mourn for me as new wings I now claim. I can take my flight to Heaven, Because the Angels came.
