Lewis, Pastor/ Officiating Apostle Nathaniel Britt, Eulogist Miss Jimmie Ruth Burdette was born on July 11, 1917 to Mr. Allen Burdette and Mrs. Lizzie Burdette in Valley, Alabama. She matriculated in the Chambers County School System. In later years, she relocated to Atlanta to live with her daughter and gained employment with High View Nursing Home. Ms. Jimmie retired after 25 years of service as a Nursing Tech at the age of 62. She stated "I will never work again, except for my grandchildren keeping their children." She did just that until her health declined. "Grandma" as she was fondly known assisted her daughter, Dorothy to raise her six children, and the elder greatgrandchildren. It was a joy for her to keep the kids, and her pastime was sleeping. Grandma had a good heart, and would give the clothes off her back. However, before she gave you what you asked for, she would give you a piece of her mind and some education. In her later years when you came to visit she would ask "Whatcha got for me?" If you didn't have anything you might as well turn around. There were two things you had to have for her and that was Coke Cola Classic and some snuff. She had many stories to tell, and loved telling them. Around the age of 85, Miss Jimmie moved in with her Granddaughter Samantha and her husband Anthony. Grandma became their personal chef, often surprising them with delicious meals when they would get home. She loved her eggs, toast, and coffee every morning and her Coke Cola Classic all day. On Thursday, March 6, 2014 Miss Jimmie Ruth Burdette put on her wings, and flew away to heaven. She will be missed but never forgotten by every life she touched. Preceding her in death is her daughter, Dorothy Lee Thomas; son, Robert Burdette, sisters, Leola Adams and Mattie Lou Hodges; brother, Allen Burdette, Jr.; grandchildren, Jimmie Smith and Cynthia Thomas; great grandson, Ricky Smith, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory, four grandchildren, Josephine Burns (Robert), Spacy Barbee (Tommy), Samantha Thomas Franklin (Anthony), Zollie Thomas (I<.aren); twenty great-grandchildren; twentytwo great great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
