Childs, Officiating ~ y ~ (!) nMarch 5, 1902, Ruzzie Ruth Borders was born to the late Joe and Savannah Shields in Jefferson, Georgia. She was known as Mama, Big Mama, Mother Borders, Aunt Ruth & Ruzzie. A life changing moment occurred in her life at the age of 7. Her father got in trouble and was not able to pay his legal bill. As a method of payment, the white attorney offered to come to her father's house and chose one of his children to assist with house work and care for his daughter. One evening, the attorney and his wife came to their house, they lined up the children and they chose the one they wanted. As fate would have it, they chose Ruzzie Ruth Borders. She packed up her clothes and moved with their family. This was a blessing for her because she learned to read, write and count money; none of her other siblings could read or write. Amazingly, over the years, she helped her grandchildren and great grandchildren do their homework. In 1921, she married Willie James Borders who preceded her in death. She gave birth to two children: Helen Borders and the late Judson Borders. Mother Borders was a charter member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church. As the church started she cooked pies and cakes to sell to raise money. She was a faithful member for many years; she sang in the choir and served on the Mother's board . As a valuable asset to her community, she was a good neighbor who showed love and support to many kids who needed it. She was "mama" to many. A family legacy of love was demonstrated during her life. Prior to being called home to be with the Lord at 9 p.m. on October 31, 2007, she was cared for by a devoted daughter, Mrs. Helen Borders, granddaughter, Shirley B. Harris (Robert), great grand daughter, Sherlonda "Peaches" Martin (Jeff). To cherish her memory, she leaves a daughter, 10 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 16 great-great grandchildren, 5 great-great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. t You have celebrated with me all along the way Now, it time to unselfishly celebrate with me today. This is the day that I return to my maker I spent a long time on earth being a mother, a grandmother and a homemaker. I've created a legacy that is truly great 5 generations of love! Celebrate, celebrate, celebrate. My family loved me and did everything they could do Today, God is making everything about me brand new. I made it to 105, now think what's possiblefor you Here's some advicefor you to do: Love Godfirst andforemost is thefirst thing to do Then do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Fret not about the things you can't control Worry, jealousy and strife will make you old. You were put on this earth to serve others and not yourself That's what I did all my life and God never left. I 'll see you on the other side! 1 Prelude ....................................................... ...........
