Seaman Smith received order to Hospitalman "A" School located in Great Lakes, Illinois, where she graduated with honors in February 1987. Her duty stations have included: 2nd Medical Battalion, 2nd Force Service Support Group (2nd FSSG) Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Naval Hospital Orlando, Florida, Naval Hospital Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico, Naval Officer Recruiting Unit, Pensacola, Florida, Navy Recruiting District Montgomery, Alabama and Naval Ambulatory Care Center, Groton, Connecticut where she retired with faithful and honorable service in December 2001. While serving on active duty, Hospital Corpsman First Class Anderson served as a Field Medical Service, Leading Petty Officer, Drug and Alcohol Program Advisor and Medical Officer Programs Recruiter. Her .I I decorations included: the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Award (5 awards), National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon. Catherine was born in LaGrange, Georgia on April 28, 1962 to the late Sam Smith, Jr., and Vivian Louise Turner Smith. She graduated from LaGrange High School - The Class of 1980. She attended Tift College, Forsyth, Georgia until she enlisted into the United States Navy in 1986. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services from the University of South Carolina Beaufort in May 2009. "Pooh", as she was affectionately known by everyone, will be remembered for her great "sense of humor", her good looks," "her excellent taste", "the ability to makepeople laugh" and "her strong love for family and friends". Catherine leaves to celebrate her life, her husband, Kevin R. Anderson; her children, Renaldo Dominque Francis and Wendell DeShaun Forbes; step-daughter, Brittney Chantal Anderson; her sisters, Armenta (Ray) Foster and Sandra Gilbert; four brothers, Amos Smith, Winston Smith, Archie (Vickie) Smith and Robert Smith; five grandchildren, Kiara, Angelina, Shaheim, Raquan and Nathaniel; three very dear friends, Ammie Davis, Barbara Pearson and Michelle Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The family would like to acknowledge our deepest appreciation of the many comforting messages, floral tributes, prayers, and many other expressions of kindness to each and everyone who were there in our time of sorrow.
