Perhaps you sent a lovely card, or sat quietly in a chair. Perhaps you sent a floral piece, if so, we saw it there. Perhaps you sang a cheerful song, if so we heard it all. Perhaps you prayed a sincere prayer, or came to pay a call. Perhaps you spoke the kindest words that any friend could say. Perhaps you prepared a tasty dish, or maybe furnished a car. Perhaps you rendered a service unseen; near at hand or from afar, Whatever you did to console our hearts, by word or deed, or touch. Whatever was the kindly part, we thank you very much!

 A TIME TO BE BORN Adelene Butler Allen, "Alley" as she was affectionately called was born January 6, 1935, to Oclie Lee and Emline Lyles Butler, in Sibley, Mississippi. She was the second of six children. 
A TIME TO PLANT She began her education at St. Mary's Catholic School, attended Deer Park Elementary School, and graduated from Brumfield High School in Natchez, Mississippi in May 1953. While in high school she stuclied nursing through the Diversified Occupation Program, which allowed her to work as a Nurses' Assistant at the Natchez Charity Hospital and the General Hospital. In August of 1948 in Kinston, Mississippi, Adelene accepted Christ, along with her sister Mary. They were baptized and became member of the Egypt Baptist Church family. 
A TIME TO LOVE While in high school Adelene met her beloved Donald Earl Allen. They were united in holy matrimony on April14, 1953. They moved to Buffalo, New York where they began a life together that endured for almost 50 years. From their union they were blessed with two loving children, Donald, Jr. and Vernita. Adelene and Donald's parenting extended into the community and their love and nurturing was a blessing to many children and families. Here was a perfect example of the phrase "It takes a village to raise a child". Adelene was truly a villagemother! 
A TIME TO HARVEST After moving to Buffalo, New York, Adelene worked at Sisters Hospital in Admissions. She admired the work that was being done in the hospital and was inspired to return to school and obtain her Bachelor's Degree and became a Social Worker. Still inspired with the opportunity to help others she persevered. She earned her Master's Degree in Education from Syracuse University and worked with the Buffalo Board of Education, teaching Adult Basic Education. She joined Calvary Baptist Church and later, Our Savior Lutheran Church, where she was an active member, sang with the Chancel Choir, The Voices of God and was on the Board of Social Ministries. 
 
Adelene was a past Eastern Star with Naomi Chapter #10 OES Buffalo, New York. You would never know she secretly loved fishing. She couldn't wait to go back to Mississippi to the family home and fish with her parents. Yet she was a classy well-dressed lady with the ultimate social graces. Adelene has left a legacy of grandeur for all who knew her to follow. 
A TIME TO REBUILD Upon the death of her husband and son, Adelene along with her younger sister Sarah relocated to Round Rock, Texas in 2004. Here holcling fum to her Christian faith, she united with I<ing of I<ings Lutheran Church and One Way Baptist Church. In 2006 she joined her daughter Vernita and made Atlanta, Georgia home. In Atlanta she united with Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church where she remained active until a decline in her health prevented her involvement. 
Adelene loved the Lord and always stressed the importance of faith. She would say "He clidn't bring me this far to leave me now"! May 9, the Lord clispatched his Angels of Glory to bring Adelene to her final heavenly home. 
A T IME TO MOU RN Adelene was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Earl Allen, Sr.; son, Donald Earl Allen, Jr.; parents, Oclie Lee Butler Sr. and Emline Lyles Butler; sister, Mary Butler Riley; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. 
She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Vernita J. Allen- 
Hunter, (David); grandsons, Aaron Tyler Hunter and Damone Allen; granddaughter, Nakia Hunter Hall (Solomon); great- granddaughter, Adclison Hall; two brothers, Oclie Lee Butler, Jr. (Pearl), Spanaway, Washington and George L. Butler, Buffalo, New York; two sisters, Sarah B. Young, Round Rock, Texas and Emma B. Harris, Conyers, Georgia; one aunt, Orelia Rounds, New Orleans, Louisiana; three sisters-in-law, Alma Ruth Russell, Natchez, Mississippi; Anita Ruth Allen Jackson, Chicago, Illinois; and Camille Carter, Los Angeles, California; goddaughter, I<imberly Hinton; her Bradford daughters, Alfreda, Gloria and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
