The materials were acquired by gift of Gary Yanker in 1975 and later.","In 1975, Gary Yanker, a collector of political and social propaganda posters, began presenting his collection to the Library of Congress. The Yanker Collection numbers over 3000 posters. Most are from the United States, but over fifty other countries are also represented.","A majority of the posters were published in the 1960's and 1970's, a time of great upheaval in world politics and society. Many of the views expressed on these posters were considered radical at the time. Photographs of Loew's Grand Theater were taken on the day it caught fire in 1978 and include images of the fire in progress and the surrounding damage.  The collection also includes images of storefronts and small businesses such as the Atlanta Upholstering Shop, and the Zebra Lounge.","Berry O. Pyron (1922-2002) was a physicist at the Georgia Institute of Technology.  Mr. Pyron was an Atlanta native and photography enthusiast who recorded the city's history for posterity. Used primarily in the 1970s and 1980s, these slides represent a cross-section of Georgia's historic preservation, from cabins to mansions, and include rural, metropolitan, Native American, and African American sites. This collection provides insight into Georgia's historic resources as they appeared fifty years ago and during the earlier years of the U.S. historic preservation movement. As part of a 2024/2025 subgrant, Digital Library of Georgia imaging staff digitized the 35mm slides in accordance with national access and preservation standards.
