- Description:
- In this interview, Greg Studdard discusses his experiences in Vietnam as an infantry platoon leader in the United States Army. He shares his family's tradition of military service and describes his childhood between Atlanta and Heidelberg, Germany, where his step-father was stationed. He talks about his undergraduate experience at Emory University and volunteering for Army OCS in 1969. He describes his training experiences and his early duty assignments before deploying to Vietnam, where he served as an infantry platoon leader. He details daily life and patrols and shares a few harrowing combat stories from near the Ho Chi Minh Trail. He traces his career following his departure from Vietnam for law school: trial litigation, corporate law, and estate law. He volunteers his time for veterans causes, he explains, such as a free legal clinic and suicide prevention work. He talks about his wife and children, and then closes the interview by reflecting on his first impressions of Vietnam and stories of loss from combat.
