Preservation Tags Are Now Being Sent to Counties!
With the exciting news that we have exceeded our goal of 1000 tag orders, everyone is asking when the tags will be available, what has been happening and what is the next step? The tags have been manufactured and are being sent out to the county tag offices this week or early next week. The Division of Motor Vehicles will send out letters within the next two weeks to everyone who ordered a tag, advising them to go to their county tag office and obtain the tag OR be issued a temporary operating permit (TOP) if for some reason the tag is not available in the county inventory. County offices should have given everyone a receipt for their $25 reservation fee. You may need that to show your credit as you pay the additional costs associated with vehicle registration. Please note: If you get your notification that the tag is available and you only have a month or so to go before your renewal, you may want to wait to get your tag until that time. The Division of Motor Vehicles encourages you to pick up your tag during your vehicle registration period, although this is not required. If you pick up your tag outside your registration period, you may incur the additional $25 special tag fee on your birthday when you renew.
How does HPD get the funding for the Georgia Heritage Grant program? Funds are not available until people actually register the vehicle with the tag. A check will be sent to HPD monthly based on the previous month's sales.
We are all excited that tags should be "on the road" in the next few weeks. Thank you again for your support. For more information, check the tag page of our Web site at http://hpd.dnr.state.ga.us/content/displaycontent.asp?txtDocument=327 or contact Carole Moore, grants coordinator, at carole.moore@dnr.state.ga.us or 404-463-8434.

CLHS announces its inaugural list of Preservation Priority Projects
Cobb Landmarks and Historical Society has announced its inaugural list of Preservation Priority Projects. Identifying ten (10) historic properties in Cobb County, Cobb Landmarks will focus on assisting these properties in their preservation efforts over the next several years.
This list serves to highlight historically relevant properties in Cobb County where there are applicable preservation tools available for the properties; a need for assistance or a demonstrated threat exists; community support exists or potentially exists; and there is the possibility of a viable solution or outcome for the project.
"Highlighting these historic properties and projects serves to educate the community about historic preservation activities and tools available and creates awareness of our past here in Cobb County," says Daryl Barksdale, Cobb Landmarks' Executive Director.
Cobb Landmarks will work to secure resources available to preserve these projects. This will be done by working with peer organizations and other entities in a variety of roles: advocacy, fundraising, providing publicity, finding a new use for a property, or identifying a steward for the property.
Cobb Landmarks has identified a wide variety of heritage resources that are significant to the area's history, each potentially vulnerable in a variety of ways. The ten (10) properties currently on the List are:
Cowan Farmstead, Acworth Wallis House, Marietta Acworth's Rosenwald School Tapp House, Powder Springs Cheney-Newcomer House, unincorporated Cobb Brushy Mountain Trenches, near Kennesaw Mountain in unincorporated Cobb Power-Jackson Cabin, unincorporated east Cobb Marietta's Bostwick-Fraser House Nesbitt/Union Chapel Property, unincorporated Cobb and Acworth's Bethel AME Church
