Taino Indian Myth and Practice: The Arrival of the Stranger King by William F. Keegan was recently reviewed by HPD's Karen Anderson-Cordova, Planning & Local Assistance Unit Manager. The book review appeared in the Fall 2007 issue of CENTRO: Journal of the Center for Puerto Rican Studies, Hunter College, City University of New York.
Community Planning Coordinator Leigh Burns' article "Historic Preservation Works for Georgia Counties" was featured in the December 2007 issue of ACCG's magazine Georgia County.
Mary Ann Eaddy, Manager of the Technical Services Unit, and Staci CatronSullivan, Director of the Cherokee Garden Library coauthored the article "Georgia's Historic Landscape Initiative in Bartow County." This can be found in the Fall/Winter 2007/2008 issue of Garden Citings, the newsletter of the Cherokee Garden Library of the Atlanta History Center.

Georgia Municipal Cemetery Association
The new Georgia Municipal Cemetery Association, formed in October 2007, will hold its next meeting at 10 a.m. on March 6 in Macon, Georgia, at Central City Park, Building #13. The agenda will include the election of officers and the adoption of association by-laws. Eligible members include those employed by or associated with either a municipal or non-profit cemetery. 2008 Historic Preservation Day at the State Capitol
Georgians for Preservation Action and the Georgia Trust are sponsoring the second annual Historic Preservation Day on Thursday, February 7 from 12:00 to 5:00 PM. The focus this year is HB 851, legislation that will strengthen Georgia's state tax credit for rehabilitation.
The program features an overview of HB 851 by its sponsor, Rep. Allen Peake; a panel discussion about why a stronger tax credit is so critical and tips on navigating the halls of the State Capitol. Preservationists will also be encouraged to speak with their legislators about HB 851 and other issues. The American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) presents the Leadership in History Awards to honor significant achievement in the field of local history, and bring public recognition to small and large organizations, institutions, and programs that contribute to this arena. Positions available in Georgia
The City of Washington has been selected to participate in the National Park Service Cultural Resource Diversity Program and is seeking qualified college student applicants for a Summer 2008 Internship. The intern will work with tourism professionals to development heritage tourism brochures and pamphlets as well as a website to encourage preservation of the town's three historic African American and European American cemeteries (Old School Cemetery, Resthaven Cemetery, and the Old Catholic Cemetery). The intern will also develop a genealogy resources program to trace the heritage of 30,000 black residents living in the City of Washington and Wilkes County in 1880. During the project, the intern will participate in Washington City Council meetings, meet with preservation officials at the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the Georgia Department of Economic Development Tourism Office, and make field visits to historic cemeteries in Savannah, Atlanta, and Augusta.
