3 new National Register listings
The Bacon County School, located in Alma, Bacon County, Georgia, was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on December 26, 2007. The Bacon County School was constructed in 1933 when a need arose for a larger school due to the town of Alma and Bacon County school systems merging, and the number of school age children increasing. The school is significant in the areas of architecture and education, and has received a Georgia Heritage grant to assist in the preparation of a historic structure report to help enable its preservation.
The William E. and Sarah Dillard Powell House, located on Boxwood Terrace in Dillard, in Rabun County, was listed in the National Register on January 2, 2008. The William E. and Sarah Dillard Powell House is significant to Rabun County as one of its early boarding houses associated with the resort era of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The house's architecture reflects its transformation from a single-family farmhouse to a much larger accommodation for seasonal boarders and tourists. It is also associated with two prominent local families--the Dillards and the Powells, early settlers in the area.
The Warner Robins Depot, located on First Street in Warner Robins, Houston County, was listed in the National Register on January 2, 2008. The Warner Robins Depot is significant in the area of architecture and transportation as a good and intact example of a 1940s depot housing both passenger and freight facilities in Georgia. The depot retains its exterior and interior character-defining features including its form, floor plan, and ticket counters. The depot is significant in the area of social history for its reflection of how public facilities were segregated during the late 19th and the first half of the 20th centuries with separate waiting rooms for white and African American travelers.
