Georgia's 2007-2011 State Historic Preservation Plan is now online
Under the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, each State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) is charged with developing, and revising as needed, a statewide historic preservation plan. Georgia's State Historic Preservation Plan 2007-2011: Building a Preservation Ethic was completed in 2007 and is now available on our website at http://hpd.dnr.state.ga.us/content/displaycontent.asp?txtDocument=408. This plan will guide our work through 2011, and provides common direction for all organizations and individuals who support the preservation of Georgia's historic places.
The Plan includes information about trends in Georgia and how they may affect historic properties; mission, vision and goals for historic preservation; information about Georgia's historic and archaeological resources, information about how preservation works in Georgia, and about the statewide preservation planning process. We encourage you to take a look at the Plan and assist us in the mission of promoting the preservation and use of historic places for a better Georgia.

Goodbye Greg - Georgia Trust President and CEO to leave after 26 years
Greg Paxton has announced that he is stepping down as president and chief executive officer of the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation. He has led the organization since 1981. The board of trustees will conduct a national search for his successor. Greg will continue in his post through December and provide

transition assistance through February, after which he will become the executive director of Maine Preservation.
HPD's director Ray Luce said, "Greg's leaving will be a real loss for the state of Georgia. His knowledge and experience will be missed. Greg has had the satisfaction of seeing many of projects and legislative initiatives enacted. He has championed tax credits, funding for preservation, and a long list of individual pieces of legislation. Programs undertaken under his leadership include the "Places in Peril" endangered properties list, the Revolving Fund, Talking Walls heritage education, and the historic preservation awards. He will be missed, but we know that he will make similar contributions to historic preservation in Maine."

Save the Date for Spring Historic Preservation Commission Training
The Georgia Alliance of Preservation Commissions is pleased to announce the Spring Historic Preservation Commission Training will be held April 25-26, 2008, in Douglas, Georgia! This workshop is targeted towards those citizens who serve on a historic preservation commission as well as city attorneys, planners

and staff, elected officials and anyone interested in learning how to protect their historic community!
The seat of Coffee County, Douglas is thriving with a bustling downtown and a strong industrial and agricultural influence. Douglas was mapped in 1858 and named after Stephen A. Douglas, a Presidential candidate running against Abraham Lincoln. Its heritage has been preserved and is still visible through historic architecture, business centers, and natural assets. Come learn how a small south Georgia town makes good!
Commissions are more successful when they understand their roles, responsibilities, and the laws under which they operate, while conveying a positive image. More importantly, well-trained members ensure that the local government is able to legally defend their decisions. Come spend a spring weekend in south Georgia and be inspired!
Sessions will begin around 1:00 pm on Friday the 25th and will conclude Saturday the 26th at 4:00 pm. The Registration Fee is $125 and covers all sessions, training materials, food, tours & events. Registration forms online soon at http://www.uga.edu/gapc/training.htm. For more information, contact Jennifer Lewis at 706-583-8047 or gapc@uga.edu.
