Georgia Department of Labor schedules job fair/career expo in Rome
ATLANTA State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today that the Georgia Department of Labor's Rome Career Center, Floyd County Board of Commissioners, The Forum Civic Center, and Coosa Valley Technical College will sponsor a job fair and career expo for employers and job seekers in the area.
The event will be held Wednesday, May 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Forum Civic Center, 2 Government Plaza in Rome. Workers who have been laid off from Florida Tile are encouraged to attend the event.
Commissioner Thurmond said, "This job fair and career expo is designed to bring employers and organizations in the Rome area together with those who have been laid off and other job seekers who are looking for employment or career guidance. Job seekers will receive cutting edge information on job search, career planning, and other valuable services designed to help them reach their full workplace potential."
The event will feature more than 50 employers that will be hiring to fill current job openings. In addition, other employers will be discussing possible future employment opportunities with the job seekers, while other organizations will be providing educational and other resources. Applicants should bring plenty of resumes and be prepared to fill out company applications and interview for available job openings.
Also featured at the event will be one-stop business service exhibits, designed to familiarize employers with services available through local One-Stop Career Centers. This information will help employers enhance recruitment efforts and decrease turnover rates. This event will present an opportunity for staff members from the various partneragencies to inform employers about the services available to businesses.
Among the employers expected to participate in the event include: Aramark, Ashton Staffing, Beaulieu of America, Blockbuster, Coosa Valley Federal Credit Union, Engineered Fabrics Corporation, Faus Group, Floyd Medical Center, Global Employment Solutions, Hays State Prison, Home Depot, Kelly Services, Mohawk Industries, Packaging Products, Randstad, Redmond Regional Medical Center, Schneider National, Scott Logistics Corporation, Shaw Industries, Southern Company, Suzuki Manufacturing of America, Tandem Staffing, Toyo Tire, Toys R Us, United Parcel Service, and Zartic.
