Labor department schedules youth employment expo in Kingsland
ATLANTA State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today that the Georgia Department of Labor's Kings Bay Career Center and Employer Committee, along with several other local organizations, will co-sponsor the area's 12th annual youth employment expo to help youth 15-22 years old find jobs and career opportunities. The youth expo will be held Thursday, March 22, from 4-6:30 p.m. at the cafeteria at Camden County High School, located off Laurel Island Parkway, near I-95's Exit 6 in Kingsland.
Commissioner Thurmond said, "This youth employment expo is designed to bring Kings Bay area employers and organizations together with youth who are seeking employment or career guidance. Almost 600 students and more than 60 employers and organizations participated in the youth expo last year. And, I encourage the employers and youth in the area to participate again this year."
The event will feature a number of employers that will be hiring to fill current job openings. In addition, other employers will be discussing possible future employment opportunities with the youth, while other organizations will be providing educational and other resources. Applicants should bring plenty of resumes and be prepared to fill out company applications and interview for available job openings.
Among the employers expected to participate in the event include: Amelia Island Plantation, American Red Cross, Camden County Fire Rescue, Coastal Bank, Cornell Companies, Department of Juvenile Justice, Express Scripts, Florida Army National Guard, Jacksonville Electrical JATC, King of Peace Episcopal Day School, Krayons Academy, Lockheed Martin, Lowe's, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Morale, Welfare and Recreation, Saint Mary's Aquatic Center, Satilla Business Services, Sea Island Company, Southeast Georgia Health System, Sterling Southern Caf, The Ritz Carlton, and the U. S. National Park Service.
Other sponsors of the event include: Kings Bay Naval Sub Base's Fleet and Family Support Center, Camden-Kings Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, and Camden County High School's youth apprenticeship and work-based learning programs. Coastal Georgia Community College Camden Center will conduct mock interviews and provide feedback to the students.
Job seekers or employers who would like additional information about the youth expo should contact the Kings Bay Career Center at (912) 673-6942. There is no charge for participation in the event.
