Kings Bay Employer Committee sets April 6 deadline for Tracy Foreman Scholarship applications
ATLANTA The Georgia Department of Labor's Kings Bay Employer Committee has set a deadline of April 6 for Camden County students to apply for two $1,000 college scholarships.
The funding for the scholarships will come from an endowment fund established in 2005 in memory of the late Tracy L. Foreman, who died in 2003. Foreman was an employment marketing representative at the Kings Bay Career Center.
State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said, "This scholarship fund is an excellent way to preserve Tracy's memory, while helping to make it possible for deserving youth in Camden County to further their education."
Under the endowment fund, the scholarships will be granted to Camden County graduating seniors entering their freshman year at an accredited institution of higher education. In addition to attending school, applicants must also be working part-time for a minimum of 15 hours per week. The scholarships are non-renewable and not based on financial need.
To qualify for the scholarships, applicants must submit an application, school records, test scores, and a two-to-three page essay. The theme of the essay is how to use education and training to develop or support a new business or industry in the Kings Bay area. Scholarship recipients will be selected by the employer committee's scholarship sub-committee. All documents much be submitted by the April 6 deadline to be considered.
For additional information about the scholarships, or to apply, contact Faith Copeland-Pittman of the Kings Bay Career Center at (912) 673-6942, or employer committee member, Steve Fortier, at (912) 729-4817. The employer committee is a group of local business representatives who establish and maintain a working relationship between the employers and the career center.
