Atlanta town hall meeting scheduled for July 28 to discuss assistive technology for people with disabilities
ATLANTA The Georgia Department of Labor's Tools for Life program, Tech-Able and ReBoot-ATRC will co-host a town hall meeting in Atlanta next week on assistive technology (AT) programs designed to aid people with disabilities.
The town hall meeting will be held Friday, July 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the auditorium of the Manuel J. Maloof Center, 1300 Commerce Drive in Decatur. People with disabilities, their family members and advocates, employers, service providers, and concerned citizens are encouraged to attend the meeting.
Tools for Life is a federally-funded program of the state labor department. Tech-Able and ReBoot-ATRC are assistive technology resource centers serving people with disabilities in the greater metropolitan Atlanta region. The three organizations have combined forces to bring people with disabilities together to strategize about ways to increase their access to assistive technology.
Attendees of the town hall meeting will learn about the assistive technology programs available in the metro Atlanta area and how they may be able to develop new ones. It is estimated by the U. S. Census Bureau that more than 515,000 people with disabilities live in the ten counties that comprise metropolitan Atlanta: Cherokee, Cobb, Clayton, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry and Rockdale. Participants will also have an opportunity to provide input regarding the kinds of assistive technology resources that are needed for people with disabilities to live independent, productive, and inclusive lives.
For more information about the town hall meeting, or to request special accommodations, call the TFL hot line at 404-638-0390.
