Labor department schedules Columbus job fair/career expo

ATLANTA State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today that the Georgia Department of Labor's Columbus Career Center, along with several other local organizations, will co-sponsor a job fair/career expo for employers and job seekers in the area. Other event sponsors include: the Columbus Employer Committee, the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce, and the Society of Human Resource Managers (SHRM).

Commissioner Thurmond said, "This job fair and career expo is designed to bring Columbus area employers and organizations together with job seekers who are looking for career guidance and possible future employment. Job seekers will receive cutting edge information on job search, career planning, and other valuable services designed to help them reach their full workplace potential."

The job fair and career expo will be held Wednesday, Dec. 6, from 2-7 p.m. in the South Hall of the Columbus Convention and Trade Center, 801 Front Ave. in Columbus. The event will feature about 100 employers.

Representatives from area businesses will be on hand to display their businesses to the public and discuss possible employment opportunities with their companies. Applicants should bring plenty of resumes and be prepared to fill out company applications and interview for available job openings. Among the employers expected to participate in the event include: A-1 Postage Meters & Shipping Systems, A-Alarm Security Company, Accounting Principals, AFLAC, AFLAC Sales, AIG American General, Ambassador, Blue Cross & Blue Shield, Callaway Gardens, Century 21, Cessna Aircraft, Chattahoochee Valley Community College, Chattahoochee Valley Community College (Adult Ed), Cherokee Sheriff's Office, Cobalt Publishing, Cobb Co.
