Calhoun area veterans' job fair scheduled
ATLANTA State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today that the Georgia Department of Labor's Rome Career Center will sponsor a job fair for veterans and other job seekers in the area.
Commissioner Thurmond said, "I strongly urge area employers to give returning veterans full consideration as they seek to fill vacancies or upgrade their workforce. During their service to our country, these brave men and women have learned valuable job skills that can be easily adapted to jobs in the civilian workplace. And, this job fair will provide an excellent opportunity for employers to come together with area job seekers who have military experience."
The job fair will be held Wednesday, Nov. 8, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., at the Georgia National Guard Armory, 300 North River St. in Calhoun. In addition to veterans, the job fair also will focus on the employees affected by the closing of the Florida Tile plant of Shannon in Floyd County.
The event is expected to feature about 30 employers. Representatives from area businesses will be on hand to interview job applicants and discuss possible employment opportunities with their companies. Applicants should bring information on their work history, current resumes, and dress appropriately.
Employers expected to participate include: Aliyah, Ashton Staffing, Avon, Beaulieu, Briggs & Briggs, Dixie Group, Enforcer Products, Floyd County government, Georgia Department of Veterans Service, Home Depot stores in Calhoun and Rome, Mercy Senior Care, Mohawk Industries, Primerica, Shaw Industries, Servesource Staffing, Southern Company, U.S. Air Force, Army, Marines, and Navy, the Walmart store in Calhoun, and Whittemore Associates.
Job seekers or employers who would like additional information about the job fair should contact the labor department's Rome Career Center at (706) 295-6051.
