Work underway for new Georgia Department of Labor Career Center in Cedartown
ATLANTA State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today that the Georgia Department of Labor has selected the architectural firm of Richard + Wittschiebe of Atlanta to design and oversee construction of the new career center in Cedartown.
Commissioner Thurmond said, "When completed, the new Cedartown Career Center will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology that will make it easier for job seekers and employers to get the help they need. In addition, Rehabilitation Services, Workforce Investment Area and other partner agencies will be located in the facility. This will provide greater access to a wide variety of employment-related services and information."
The Georgia Department of Labor will construct the new career center at 262 North Park Blvd. in Cedartown. The new center will replace the labor department office located at 321 West Ave. Construction is expected to be completed by Sept. 1, 2008.
"I want to thank Commissioner Thurmond for his, and the Georgia Department of Labor's commitment, to the people of Polk County," said Polk County Commissioner Billy Croker. "The new career center and the services that will be provided there are vital to our workforce and the future economic growth and stability of our county. We are looking forward to having the new career center open."
Employment-related services for job seekers at the center will include: a resource area to enhance self-directed job search; computers with internet access to job referrals; resume preparation software, career exploration, labor market information, and filing unemployment insurance claims via the internet; skill assessment and evaluation; job search and interview preparation; financial management workshops; and referral to job training and educational programs.
Services for employers available at the center include: recruiting and staffing; space for screening applicants; a business center with access to computers, fax machines, copiers and telephones; training; downsizing and layoff assistance; employment law consultation; labor market trends; and wage reporting via the internet.
