FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LABOR DEPARTMENT'S ALBANY OFFICE TO OPEN LONGER HOURS

ATLANTA -- State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said today that the Georgia Department of Labor's Albany office will expand its hours to better serve employers and job seekers in the area.

The office will now open Mondays and Tuesdays from 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. to offer a full range of services. The office will continue to follow the long-standing hours of 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m Wednesday through Friday. Staff will also be available to assist customers outside of normal office hours by appointment. The office is not open on weekends.

"We're able to expand our schedule without additional staff, overtime or employee workload by using flex-time schedules," said Mike Flowers, manager of the office. "The extended hours will allow our customers, especially those whose work schedules correspond with our traditional operating schedule, more opportunities to use the department's services. We want to be available when our customers need us."

The office is located at 1608 S. Slappey Boulevard in Albany. The telephone number is (912) 4305010. It serves Calhoun, Dougherty, Lee, and Terrell counties.

Job openings listed with the Georgia Department of Labor, along with employer workplace posters, employer forms and other pertinent information, are available on the department's Web site at www.dol.state.ga.us.
