Executive order [Sept. 7, 1999B]

THE STATE OF GEORGIA
EXECUTIVE ORDER

BY THE GOVERNOR:

w HEREAS:

Many important decisions impacting the financial and social welfare of the

citizens of Georgia are based upon the results of the decennial census; and

w HEREAS:
W HEREAS: WHEREAS: W HEREAS: W HEREAS:

The count of the population obtained by the census will determine the reapportionment of the United States Congress and the Georgia General Assembly, and Georgia could gain one or more congressional seats following such reapportionment; and
A multitude of federal programs benefitting the citizens of Georgia are based upon or distribute funds in whole or in part according to population counts which are determined by the census; and
The private sector often relies on census data such as population counts, population density, growth and change when making business and investment decisions: and
For the next decade, nearly all population estimates and projections for the near- and long-term future will be based on the 2000 Census; and
It is vital that a complete count of all Georgians be conducted to ensure accuracy and full representation and that, even with the extensive efforts of the United State Census Bureau, additional efforts are required to ensure as complete a count as possible;

0 RDERED:

NOW THEREFORE, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY
