Atlanta, GA - On Thursday, February 13, Governor Kemp visited the Emory Healthcare Veterans Program to tour the facility and sign a letter joining the Governors' Challenge to Prevent Suicide Among Service Members, Veterans, and their Families. Later that morning, Kemp toured McEachern High School, where he held a press conference highlighting his priorities for education in Georgia.
Taking Care of Georgia's Veterans
AJC: "Although Georgia has already begun to implement suicide prevention efforts, participation in this important initiative will allow us to further enact best policies and practices and advance our suicide prevention efforts by using a comprehensive public health approach," Kemp wrote in a letter to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
...Barbara Rothbaum, a psychologist who leads the program at Emory, hailed Kemp's decision. "We really need to get the message across that treatment helps," she said. "If you treat people effectively, it is going to help save lives."
Fighting for Georgia's Teachers and Students:
Marietta Daily Journal: Kemp told the students a good education system is at the core of Georgia's future success, and a key factor in fixing many of the state's problems, including human trafficking, gangs and health issues.
