Gov. Kemp Welcomes Applications for U.S. Senate
Atlanta GA Today Governor Brian P. Kemp encouraged all qualified Georgians who want to serve in the U.S. Senate to submit their applications online.
"To ensure an open and transparent appointment process I am encouraging all Georgians who want to serve in the U.S. Senate to submit their name and qualifications " said Governor Kemp. "We will carefully vet the applicants and choose a person who best reflects our values our state and our vision for the future."
The Governor s Office will release additional details at the appropriate time.
Applicable Law
U.S. Const. Art. I 3 Cl. 3
No Person shall be a Senator who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty Years and been nine Years a Citizen of the United States and who shall not when elected be an Inhabitant of that State for which he shall be chosen.
Ga. Const. Art. V II Para. VIII
(a) When any public office shall become vacant by death resignation or otherwise the Governor shall promptly fill such vacancy unless otherwise provided by this Constitution or by law and persons so appointed shall serve for the unexpired term unless otherwise provided by this Constitution or by law.
