Statement of Governor Perdue Regarding Senate Passage of Bright from the Start Legislation

Atlanta - Governor Sonny Perdue issued the following statement today regarding unanimous passage of Senate Bill 456, the Governor's "Bright from the Start, Georgia's Office of Early Care and Education" legislation:
"With passage of this legislation we are one step closer to preparing our toddlers for a future of learning. By consolidating state resources under the newly created office, Bright from the Start, we will be able to infuse more educational value into childcare and pre-k programs. We're also making it easier for childcare providers to set up quality facilities upon which parents can rely. I look forward to the consideration of this bipartisan bill in the House."
Governor Perdue's education package (flexibility and accountability, school discipline, and Bright from the Start) passed the Senate with broad, bipartisan support and is now before the House of Representatives.
