Pop-Tarts, Ragu Marinara Sauce recalled because milk not listed on labels
Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin is alerting consumers that a variety of Pop-Tarts and a marinara sauce are being voluntarily recalled because they fail to list milk as an ingredient on the labels. Those who have milk allergies run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
Kellogg Company of Battle Creek, MI, is voluntarily recalling its Pop-Tarts Frosted Blueberry toaster pastries packaged in 14.7 oz 8-count cartons with a bar code of 38000 31010. Only 8-count cartons with a manufacturing code beginning with AUG 27 07 CPC printed on the top of the carton are included in this alert.
The product was distributed to grocery retailers in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.
Unilever of Englewood Cliffs, NJ, is voluntarily recalling 1,000, 26-ounce glass jars of "Ragu Pasta Sauce, Old World Style, Marinara", UPC # 3620000400, Best If Used By SEP20 2008.
The marinara sauce was distributed to various states in the East, South and Midwest. The recall affects only the 1,000 jars specified by Unilever. No other Ragu sauces are being recalled.
"We are alerting all consumers that these products have milk in them and could make you sick if you have a milk allergy," said Commissioner Irvin.
Consumers are advised by Unilever to immediately discard the marinara sauce and contact the company at 1-866-839-8138 for a refund. Consumers can return the Pop-Tarts to the place of purchase for a refund
