To Live Eternally
We are and then we are not. Like the blowing out o f a candle or the closing o f a door, we go to sleep so that we
may awaken in the morning... and i f we did not sleep,
we could never know thejoy o f awakening. And if we did not die, we could never live eternally.
After the clouds, the sunshine, After the winter, the spring,
After the shower, the rainbow, for life is a changeable thing. After the night, the morning,
bidding all darkness cease; After life's cares and sorrows, the comfort and sweetness o fpeace.

Obituary
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the
faith. "
II Timothy 4:7
M-- - --___ -
-X- - J L ."Moppy" and nicknamed "Took", was called from labor to reward
on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at Palmetto Health Baptist Medical Center in Co
lumbia, South Carolina. Martha was born on November 21, 1910 in Richland
County. She was the second of eleven children born to the late Beverly Garrick,
Sr. and Margaret Sims Garrick.
Martha was educated in the public schools of Richland County attending Gadsden Elementary and Booker T. Washington High School in Columbia, South Carolina. She also studied at Columbia Junior College to become a nurse's aide.
Martha, in her early years was nurtured by a Christian family. At a young age, she dedicated her life to Christ and joined the St. Mark Baptist Church where her love for the Lord manifested in every aspect of her journey. She was especially dedi cated to the Missionary Society # 1 and the Senior Choir for many years. She was honored as the Mother of the Senior Choir, and also recognized on Senior Recogni tion Day as one of the oldest members of the church.
She was united in marriage to the late Mr. Charlie Moore on October 13, 1936. The Moore home was steeped in religious faith and a commitment of service to others. Her home in Columbia was always open to family and friends who needed a "home away from home" to attend school or work. You were always welcomed at Martha's house. Though Martha had no biological children, she became a mother to all of her nieces and nephews and many church and community children, never forgetting birthdays and special events in their lives.
Martha's work ethics were never questioned. She worked very hard and would not stop until the task at hand was completed. For many years she worked with the Joe E. Berry family and the W. E. Willis family. She appreciated them and they did likewise because of all the love, support, care, and concern she shared with them. She was often regarded as family and even after retirement those special bonds continued.
She was courageous in the face of adversity and encouraging to all of her family and friends. She was the matriarch of the Garrick family and her church family both of which loved her dearly. Martha believed in truth and honesty. She lived what she believed and loved unconditionally and will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Known for her calm and quiet demeanor, Mrs. Moore was a role model to her younger siblings, nieces, nephews and others whose lives she touched. Mar tha's legacy......her wisdom, and love will live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew her.
She was blessed to have the loving attention of her immediate family and the spe cial care of her nieces during her final years. Those left to cherish her memories include: her sister, Carrie Garrick Shivar, Gadsden, South Carolina; two sisters-inlaw, Naomi Scott Garrick, Gadsden, South Carolina, and Lillie Gay Garrick, Co lumbia, South Carolina; special friends Dr. Barnett (Meredith) Berry, Hillsbor ough, North Carolina, Roxanne (Hugh) Corbett, Chapin, South Carolina and Mary Willis Hellams, Columbia, South Carolina; many loving nieces and nephews, and other relatives and treasured friends. Special thanks to her caregivers Barbara Brown and Gracie Goodwine.
