Mary Patterson Leach was born December 7,
1911, in Barnwell, South Carolina to the late Aaron and Rachel Patterson. She attended the public schools in Aiken County, South Carolina. She left South Carolina to make a life for herself in New York.
At an early age, she joined Runs Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her health failed.
She was married to the late Archie Dean Leach on February 23,1952. To this union, no children were born, but she had the privilege of raising John West as her son. She also cared for and provided for a number of relatives and loved ones. She became a mother, grandmother, aunt, caregiver, and mentor for many far and near. She volunteered many valuable countless hours as a caregiver, caring for the sick and shut-in.
Mrs. Leach served faithfully in many organizations over the years including: the Federation of Block Associations of New York, 106th Precinct Commu nity Council of Brooklyn, and the Georgia Council of the Blind. She received commendations from the Peoples Democratic Coalition Club of New York City, the Metropolitan Coordinating Committee For Children, the Zion Temple Baptist Church Missionaries, the Police Department of New York City and others.
She departed this life on January 8, 2012, one month after the celebration of her 100th birthday.
She leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and sorrowing friends.

God's Garden Must Be Beautiful
God Looked around the garden, and found an empty space. He looked down upon the earth, and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you, and lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful for he only takes the best. He knew you were weary, and knew you were in pain. He knew that you might never, be well on earth again. He saw the roads were getting rough, and the hills were hard to climb. So he closed your weary eyelids, and whispered peace be thine.
