There comes a time in everyone's life when they must leave their loved ones and depart these earthly shores. That time came to Mr. William G. Johnson, Sr. of Hephzibah, GA on Saturday at University Hospital on, January 3, 2009.
William was born to Eulia Gibbs and William Olanda Johnson on September 20, 1929 in Augusta, Georgia. He attended Haines High School and was enlisted in the U. S. Army but was medically discharged.. Believing marriage to be honorable, he united with Juanita J. Everson. To this union six children were born. Upon her death, he found love again and united in matrimony with Deloris Andrews. This union produced eight children.
Mr. Johnson was a hard working man. He was formerly employed as an insurance agent and District Insurance Manager at Wisconsin National Insurance Company. He was such a hard working insurance agent that he earned a trip to Hawaii. He was further employed by the Richmond County Board of Education and retired from the Augusta Country Club after many years of dedicated service.
Mr. Johnson enjoyed his family, golf and just being outdoors. He was a devoted spouse and loving father. Mr. Johnson was a master entertainer and always had a humorous word to share. He loved music and enjoyed playing the piano as his children were born.
William will forever be cherished by Eight sons, Mr. William Johnson, Jr., Mr. Steven L. Johnson, of Augusta, GA , Overseer Kenneth (Elder Ardena) Johnson, Mr. Randolph Johnson, Mr. Anthony Johnson, Mr. Cornell Johnson, all of Hephzibah, Mr. Cornelius (Wanda) Hunter of Fayetteville, NC, Mr. Richard Smithson of Richmond, VA, Five daughters, Mrs. Angelia (Wendell) Stallings of Augusta, GA, Mrs. Patricia (Willis) Moses of Hephzibah, GA, Mrs. Wilgenia (Marvin) Starks of Douglasville, GA, Mrs. Rosie James of Fayetteville, NC, Mrs. Doris (Min. Joe) Bacote of North Augusta, SC; a beloved sister, Mrs. Louise G. Rainey, daughters-in-law Mrs. Mary Johnson, and Min. Ernestine Johnson; brothers-in-law, Mr. Leroy (Mary) Andrews, Mr. Jimmy (Vickie) Andrews, of Augusta, GA, Mr. Jerome (Cynthia) Andrews, of Florence, SC and Mr. William (Doris) Andrews of Columbia, SC, sisters-in-law, Mrs. Christine Clark, Mrs. Ernestine (Noah) Simmons, and Mrs. Carol (Johnny) Alston all of Augusta; a devoted grandson Mr. Robert P. Johnson, II, Thirty-nine grandchildren and Eighteen great grandchildren, Three dear cousins, Mary Collins, Augusta, GA, Bernice Benjamin, Ozone Park, NY, and Eugene Washington, Brooklyn, NY, as well as, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives andfriends.
William was preceded in death by his wife Deloris A. Johnson, his daughters Charlotte L. Anderson and Carolyn Johnson, and by his son, Retired Captain Robert P. Johnson, Sr.
