M iss Me --But Let Me Qo
When 1 come to the end o f the road And the sun has set for me
1 want no rites in a gloomfilled room. Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little-'but not too long And not with your head bowed low. Remember the love that we once shared,
Miss me--but let me go. For this is a journey that we all must take
And each must go alone. It's all a part of the M aster's plan,
A step on the road to home. When you are lonely and sick of heart
G o to the friends we know And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.
Miss Me--But Let me G o!
The family wishes to express our sincere appreciation for the many acts of kindness and support extended to us during our time of bereavement. Your love and thoughtfulness will always be remembered. ~ The Family

"Let not your heart be troubled. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself."
- John 14:1a, 2b'3a
The clock of life is wound but once, and no man has the power to tell just when the hand will stop at either a late or early hour. So was the
clock for
the clock began on September
18, 1917, when she was born to the late johnny Richard and Janie Dunbar
Meyer in Meyers Mill, South Carolina.
As her clock continued to tick, she dedicated her life to Christ at
an early age, and was baptized by the late Reverend Moody in an outdoor
pool, at St. Mary Baptist Church in Barnwell County, South Carolina.
Alean was a very astute and highly intelligent individual. Those qualities
are attributed to the way she was reared by her parents and her education.
She was a 1936 graduate of Mather Academy, a private Methodist School
in Camden, South Carolina. After graduation, she travelled to Atlanta,
Georgia and attended Beauty College. Upon completion of this training,
she went to Orangeburg, South Carolina to pursue a career as a beautician.
She had a variety of work experiences . . . In the 4 0 's she migrated to De
troit, Michigan and worked for the Chrysler Corporation making airplane
parts during the war. At the conclusion of the war, she worked with the
Arden Lamp Shade Company making beautiful lamp shades (a trade she
continued to use in decorating her home). She then met, fell in love and
married Andrew Hay (preceded her in death 2001). They later moved
to Maryland, where she worked with the Prince George's County Health
Department until her retirement in 1973. Five years later she and Andrew
relocated to Augusta, Georgia, where she united with Galilee Missionary
Baptist Church and served on the Deaconess Board and Music Ministry.
Alean had a number of hobbies which included cooking (those
in her life can attest to), sewing, bowling, needle point and collecting
various antique items. She also was a valuable source for family history.
While peacefully sleeping at Heartland Hospice on Thursday, April 10,
2008, Alean's clock stopped ticking at 4:13 a.m. and she went to join the
heavenly choir. Those left to cherish her memory and continue her legacy
are: her sister, Rosa Ella Holloway of Sanford, FL; two sisters-in-law, Carrie
L. Hay of Lanham, Maryland and Thelma Meyer Williams of Detroit, MI;
one brother-in-law, Hubert Mayes of Ninety Six, SC; two devoted cousins
(care-givers) Lottie Black and Shirley Blocker of Augusta, GA; and a host
of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
I go to life and not to death From darkness to life's native shy: I go from sickness and from pain
To health and immortality. Let our farewell, then, be tearless.
Since I bid farew ell to tears; Write this day o f my departure Festive in your coming years.
- Horatius Bona -
There is no night Without a dawning N o winter without a spring
And beyond death's dark horizon O ut hearts will once more sing .... For those who leave us for a while
Have only gone away Out o f a restless, care worn world
Into a "Brighter D ay" W here there will be no partings And time is not counted by years, W here there are no trials and troubles, N o worries, no cares and no tears
