The Obituary
On Saturday February 12, 2011, God declared Well done, good and faithful servant! and Deacon
Leonard M. Allen (SFC U.S. Army Retired) went home to eternal rest with the LORD. He was bom
on May 11, 1928 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Isabella Allen. He is survived by his devoted
wife of 58 years, Dorothy M. Allen, the love of his life and a precious gift from God.
He spent over twenty years serving his country in the United States Army, retiring in 1970 as a Sergeant
First Class. He served at various bases around the world, including two tours in Korea. After retiring
from active Military service with the U.S. Army Signal Corps, he spent the next nineteen years in Civil
Service working in the Specialized Electronics Department at Fort Gordon, Georgia.
In the 1960s, he became a member of Thankful Baptist Church. He was ordained as a deacon in 1982
by the late Rev. N. T. Young and served Thankful in various capacities: Deacon Board, Devotion
Leader, Trustee, and Sunday School Superintendent. He was an active member of the Senior Citizen
Group and regularly attended W.S. Harris Bible Class. Deacon Allen was also a founding member of
Servants of God Baptist Church serving as a deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Sunday School
Superintendent. He served faithfully for five years prior to returning to Thankful. He was a fatherly
Christian advisor, mentor and confidant to many.
In 1956, Deacon Allen received the degree Master Mason as a member of Eureka #41 in Japan. He
was a former member of Prince Hall Masonic family of Augusta, Lebanon Consistory #28, New Era
Lodge #107, and Stolkin Temple #22. While active, he served as Worshipful Master, Illustrious
Potentate, and Noble Advisor for Stolkin Court #173 Daughters of Isis. He proudly achieved 32 degree
Mason and received many awards. In addition, Deacon Allen served his community as a charter
member and first treasurer of the East Augusta Neighborhood Association, Inc., for 28 years.
Deacon Allen truly loved God, his wife and his family. He was most proud of his children and
grandchildren, but for the past several years, Deacon Allen devoted his life loving and caring for his
precious wife, Dorothy, whose price is far above rubies.
Precious memories of him will always remain with sons: Leonard (Becky) Allen Jr., Stone Mountain,
GA; Anthony (Connie) Allen, Oak Ridge, TN; Dr. Clement (Adrienne) Allen, Tallahassee, FL; a
daughter: Joanne (Alfred) Jackson, Fayetteville, GA; seven grandchildren: Eric (Theresa) Allen Jr.;
Jamaal Rountree; Besus Allen; Dante Allen; Jamila Allen; Alricka Jackson; Jabari Allen; three great-
grandchildren: Treasure Allen; Cherish-Faye Allen; Sire Allen; two devoted nieces: Clariza (Broderick)
Smith, Harlem, GA; Lisa Westbrook, Augusta, GA; loving cousins from Durham, NC and Annapolis,

In Memoriam
We looked up to you as all kids do
And in our eyes Higher in stature you grew
We often took issue with your stalwart ways
Only to marvel now at the Wisdom of your days
The lessons you gave, always spoken aright
Were all written down in the tracks of your life
Thank you Jehovah God for letting us see
An example of the real love that a Father could be . . .
We Love You
Leonard/Jr., Anthony,Joanne^ and/Clement
This is my commandment, that you love one another just as I have loved you. No one has love
greater than this, that someone should surrender his soul in behalf of his friends.

I'm Free
by Unknown
Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free.
I'm following the path God has laid, you
I took His hand when I heard His call.
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day,
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way,
I found the peace at the close of day.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joys.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow.
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I savored much,
Good friends, good times, a loved one's
touch.
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts, and peace to thee.
God wanted me now,
He set me free
